Masaka Microfinance and Development Cooperative Trust Ltd (MAMIDECOT) is a member-based Savings and Credit Organization (SACCO) regulated by the Ministry of Cooperatives under the Cooperative Societies Act 1991 (Cap 112). The SACCO registered in 1999 as No. 6317/RCS. The SACCO operates in the Greater Masaka Region - Southwestern Uganda. This region comprises eight political districts namely Masaka, Rakai, Bukomansimbi, Kalungu, Lwengo, Sembabule, Kalangala, Kyotera and Lyantonde.
The SACCO aims to provide quality financial, social and business advisory services to its members. From this SACCO, the members save and borrow at affordable rates and can access both agriculture and business management services.
The institution started with 34 members and now has 23,000 members. Total liabilities and equity has grown from Ugx 6.4 m to Ugx 9.7bn and from one branch to five branches. The AGM is the supreme organ of the SACCO and after every two years, it elects a nine- member Board of Directors and the supervisory committee. The AGM approves major strategic decisions and reports while the Board oversees management and makes operational policies.
MAMIDECOT has continually collaborated with the Government of Uganda field extension staff and Non-governmental agencies to expand its capacity for providing an array of quality services to the community.
Through the partnerships, MAMIDECOT has improved its equity and operation capacity. Furthermore, our work with other organizations has sponsored capacity-building programs for the employees and the Board of Directors. MAMIDECOT current and past partners include the AMFIU, SUFFICE, MSCL, UNDP, Rabobank Foundation, ADB, GIZ, UCSCU, UCA, Rural SPEED, Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), and Agribusiness Initiative Trust (aBi Trust), Rabobank Foundation.
